Work on Writing
The best way to become a better writer is to practice every day. During work on writing your child will be working on their writing stamina, which for some can be difficult and they may want to give up. This is why we practice every day.
During word work your child will do all sorts of activities to help them better understand words. When they practice spelling and working with words they will become more fluent readers.
Read to Someone
First graders enjoy reading and like reading to a friend. Reading to someone helps with fluency and accuracy. The partner learns how to become a coach, and help the reader use strategies to figure out the correct word rather than just give them the answer
Listen to Reading
When we listen to reading we are tracking the words while we hear the story. We hear examples of what a good reader sounds like. We also learn new words, which helps expand our vocabulary.
