Math-We are practicing: teen problems with various unknowns, adding and subtracting with teen numbers, adding 3 1-digit numbers together and grouping a 10 if we can, making groups of 10 when there are many objects to count, counting and writing numbers through 120, and adding and subtracting 10 and multiples of 10.
Religion-we learned how Jesus taught his followers to pray. He said "When you pray say this 'Father, hallowed be your name.'" We learned that this is the Lord's Prayer and is also known as the Our Father. We talked about how Jesus is the shepherd and we are his sheep. We learned that Hosanna and Alleluia are words of praise. We talked about when these words are used. We also learned that Jerusalem was an important city during Jesus' time, and many of his followers went there to listen to Jesus.
Social Studies- We have been talking about being good citizens. We learned that a citizen belongs to a country, and that being a good citizen is important. We discussed different groups we belong to, and talked about how we get along with everybody in that group. Students talked about rules in the classroom and at home. We learned that a law is a special rule. Laws are made to help people get along, and keep people safe. We also talked about leaders. Leaders are people who help us make plans and do the right thing. We also discussed being kind, what are kind actions and what are not, and how we feel when people say/do kind things. For Dental Health Month we talked about how to keep our teeth healthy by brushing them twice a day. We saw what the effects of soda can do to our teeth by trying it out on an egg.

Reading-During reading we looked at the ending of words and the different sounds those endings make. It is important to read words all the way through, so we hear the ending sounds. We learned about proper nouns, possessive nouns, and homophones. We reviewed sounds that digraphs make. We talked about the main idea and details of stories.
Writing-We finished our Nonfiction unit by publishing our stories using Microsoft Word. The students were very excited to be able to use the computers to publish their books, and were all anxiously waiting by the printer to see the final product. We will display these stories in the classroom for a short time, and then I will send them home. Next month we will work on poetry.
